Specific and concrete opportunities for courses in 2017/18:

Culture of catharsis

The course focuses on a number of contemporary artistic practices from different genres that share the same objective: to awaken the spectator from a world-weariness cause by images of violence, media over-stimulation, and overused narratives. The intention is to question our experience in terms that go beyond the visual (dis)comfort, and to critically approach different aspects of violence. Catharsis is than a tool, a dispositive which allows its channeling through Arts.

Semiotics of image

Semiotics of image is the course that does not consider ‘image’ to be an unproblematic, pre-given entity, but questions its materiality and spectrality together with the consequences that ‘image’ has on culture and society. Our intention is to challenge the commonsense ideological understanding of image a mere form of harmless appearance, maintaining that it is a system of signification that articulates multi-layered experience.
