MAP IN MOTION Festival screening - on January 20 2015 at 7pm at Kulturni dom Nova Gorica presenting short films by MAP students:
Nerazločen pogovor (Indistinct conversation)
Iva Musović, Serbia/ Slovenia, 2012, transfer from 8mm, black and white, 4', no subs
Portrait fragments and communication among people during festival breaks. The picture is largely out of focus and the film does not have the original sound. The conversations are muted, experienced only through short details and the atmosphere.
On the last (official) day of the ADRIART project, at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts we got the first graduate of the (ADRIART developed) Media Arts and Practices Master programme - Urška Djukić! Her thesis: »TV-series: the future of film?« (theoretical) and »Audivisual work, pilot for the TV-series Kids« (practical part). Her mentors were film director Janez Burger for the practical part and film director and artist Jasna Hribernik for the theoretical part.
MAP in MOTION Ljubljana -
July 14, August 18, September 3
As closure of the ADRIART project and in the context of Media Arts and Practices master study program, the ADRIART partners are organizing MAP in MOTION festival, which is being held separately at different locations. The Ljubljana edition of the MAP in MOTION festival will see on July 14 seen a symposium and exhibition and in late summer a screening (September 3) and a dance-theatre show (August 20). The symposium will present specific progressive parts of the internationally oriented master programme in Media Arts and Practices. An important part of the symposium presents the artist talk, where artists-students are given the possibility to present their work. In the last part of the symposium we invite to an open discussion »Studying in art – Studio in the city«, and later in the evening to a guided tour and vernissage of the exhibition of works by students from University of Nova Gorica School of Arts and Academy of Applied Arts of University of Rijeka in Alkatraz Gallery.
Student production screened at Video in Progress Festival in Ljubljana. The festival selection includes short works by different generations dealing with the city and the history. The introduction comprises a number of short films produced at First Pass (Prva podaja), a 48-hour workshop that marks the beginning of the new academic year; every year the new intake of students, mixed into different inter-generational combinations, walks through the city and whilst getting acquainted also produce their first group works.
Enrolments for the MA in Media Arts and Practices at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts are open. You can have a peek of what the programme is about at the presentations on May 28 at 4pm, either at School premises in Gorica (Palazzo Alvarez, Via Diaz 5, Gorica) or at Slovenska kinoteka in Ljubljana (Miklošičeva 28).
To someone who is new to ADRIART and Media Arts and Practices Programme, the term Progress Track might not mean much. To students (and mentors!) of the Programme however it is the backbone of their studies, a regular review of their work; on smaller projects, advancing their knowledge, skills and conception on and for their master project. This overall progress is mentor and peer reviewed through regular meetings, as often as possible with -remote or f2f- meetings with a group at another institution.
Upon an intriguing episode of MKN in 2013 ADRIART will be back to the pretty little island with an even more spatially focussed and micro-geographically aware course of site-specific intermedia interventions:
Summer course, Komiža 2014:
MAPPING KOMIŽA NARRATIVES
when: 6-13 September 2014
where: Komiža, Island of Vis, Croatia
This year's 3d-modelling&materialization workshop "GRAB.ROG.LAND, a MonoMaterialisation of Rog" is based on a student's game concept GRABROGLAND.doc (Peter Mišic, University of Nova Gorica School of Arts) from the 2012/13 workshop "LOGOS, Multitude Manifestations of Rog".
I have just arrived from one of the many ADRIART mobilities which are a part of our Media Arts and Practice MA programme. Some of them are obligatory depending on one's carrier module, others optional, but each of them is different and gives you an intense experience of its kind. It is not only getting to know new technologies, reading theory, making a new project. It is mostly getting to know yourself through collaboration with other participants - and here, I mean students and mentors.
Candidates should approach with a project idea or clear interest in a specific creative realm. In an international atmosphere students will develop their final project and theoretical thesis, all in close interaction with mentors, guest teachers and peers. Embedded in international mobility and collaboration networks, the Media Arts and Practices master was designed for flexible lifestyles and manifold careers within the EU-supported adriart.net project, including regular workshops on specific sites with referenced partners in Austria, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and elsewhere.
University of Nova Gorica is organizing an international 3D printing workshop in RogLab Ljubljana on the theme Logos - Multitude manifestations of Rog. 2 spaces are availabel for general public. Application deadline: Deceber 5 2012. Workshop Kickoff contact and start of online research and preparation phase December 10, 2012 and onward, workshop on site January 10-12, 2013.
Details about the application as also workshop itself
In one month of joint online preparation international participants of the workshop have acquired the basics of parametric 3d-modelling and -printing. In parallel they did research on the existing practices and discourses in and around Rog - to scrape out possible identification pathways for developing algorithmic artefacts.
Those logo-like objects have been interactively finalized in situ and materialized in an intensive 3-day workshop at RogLab [roglab.si]. In the end they illustrated the formalizing process of identity hypotheses, rather than codify the characteristics of Rog. All of which are intended to be concrete statements and unfinished contributions at the same time.
The Master of Arts in Media Arts and Practices at the University of Nova Gorica has started its pilot year! Here are a few first impresions: Peter Purg gives an insiders view on how MAP is Progressing on all Tracks in the new School of Arts spaces in Gorica and Nadija Mustapić provides a valuable update about the Rijeka mobility pre-pilot.
