As the second edition of Rijeka Site-specific mobility we are proposing specific location that reflects multiple dimensions of time, suggests numerous potential narratives and variety of approaches to the topic of site and its specific context. This year's location is a historical ship, Yugoslav Navy yacht Galeb. After its rich and tormentous history the ship is now located in Rijeka harbour with a perspective to become a museum/monument.
To someone who is new to ADRIART and Media Arts and Practices Programme, the term Progress Track might not mean much. To students (and mentors!) of the Programme however it is the backbone of their studies, a regular review of their work; on smaller projects, advancing their knowledge, skills and conception on and for their master project. This overall progress is mentor and peer reviewed through regular meetings, as often as possible with -remote or f2f- meetings with a group at another institution.
My first mobility workshop in context of ADRIART project and ADRIART–related experiences was a documentary film course HiLoVV in Venice that included two weeks of intense work on the field and tested me and my capacities. I have learned so much and have met great student colleagues and mentors from other institutions.
The Academy of Applied Arts at the University of Rijeka has launched a new, two-year study programme (120 ECTS). The programme is called MEDIA ARTS AND PRACTICES (MAP) and it begins in the academic year 2013/2014.
The study was developed through the Adriart project.
MAP curriculum consists of three main modules, the so-called Carrier Modules: Photography, Intermedia and Scenographic Spaces. These three modules are the main production areas that students select upon enrolment.
After the successful accreditation process of MAP study program on the University level, MAP study program at the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka will consist of three carrier modules: Intermedia, Photography and Scenographic Spaces and will be implemented in the academic year 2013/2014. Promotional event which will publically present MAP study program is planned during the project meeting in Rijeka and in time of the Scenographic Spaces mobility pilot in ex industrial complex Rikard Bencic in Rijeka. Promotional event will be held in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka spaces (Dolac 1/II) on the 27th of June at 10.30 am.
The workshop, held from June 24. to 28. 2013 in the Rikard Benčić ex-factory complex, was based on the theme of site specificity in which the main role is carried by the space as it is now. From the workshop description: "The space itself emanates an assignment/purpose towards the product, defined by the student: for the necessities of an ambient installation as an independent art piece or for a potential event to be created (performance, action or theatrical piece). The student is free to choose between ambient and performance / action. Among the locations suggested, the student chooses a specific unit or a complex in which he creates his work.
The workshop location was the Industrial heritage complex of the city of Rijeka, including every potential space which once had an industrial function and as such defined the city in the past years. Each specific location chosen is a sum of smaller locations disposed to the student, as a total (architectural circuit), or an individual unit (separate rooms)."
